Two individuals identified as relatives of Qasem Soleimani were arrested by U.S. immigration authorities, according to statements from the U.S. Department of State.
Officials said Hamideh Soleimani Afshar and her daughter, Sarinasadat Hosseiny, were taken into custody by Immigration and Customs Enforcement and had their lawful permanent resident status revoked.
According to authorities, the action was based on alleged ties to the Iranian government and public statements made while living in the United States. Officials said the case involved concerns about support for organizations and activities linked to Iran, as well as social media content viewed as promoting foreign government narratives.
Government records indicate that Afshar entered the U.S. in 2015 on a tourist visa and was later granted asylum before obtaining a green card.
Authorities also stated she had traveled internationally, including return visits abroad, after receiving permanent residency. Her daughter entered on a student visa and later became a lawful permanent resident as well.
The case highlights the broader legal framework governing immigration status and national security considerations. U.S. officials have emphasized
that permanent residency can be revoked under certain circumstances, particularly when concerns arise related to foreign affiliations or activities deemed inconsistent with the terms of residency.
