A serious traffic accident involving a school bus occurred in Leander, Texas, after the vehicle veered off the road and overturned while carrying more than 40 students.
The crash happened on August 13, 2025, during the first day of the new school year. The bus was transporting students from Bagdad Elementary School to their homes when it left the roadway and overturned for reasons that remain under investigation.
Emergency crews, police officers, firefighters and several ambulances quickly arrived at the scene. According to initial reports, 18 people were transported to nearby hospitals for medical treatment, with some of the injured initially reported to be in serious condition.
There were reportedly 42 children and one adult aboard the bus at the time of the crash. Authorities said no students had been dropped off before the accident occurred.
The bus was manufactured in 2024 and was equipped with seat belts.
Investigators are working to determine what caused the driver to lose control of the vehicle. The local school district also announced that it would review its safety procedures and transportation protocols following the incident.
Images from the scene showed a major emergency response, with numerous ambulances, police vehicles and rescue teams surrounding the overturned bus.
Parents were contacted and informed about the condition of their children.
