With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of a singer with a voice that touched so many hearts.

Dylan Carter, a standout contestant from Season 24 of The Voice, has died at just 24 years old following a single-vehicle crash in rural South Carolina.

According to local authorities, the accident occurred late Saturday night on a road in Colleton County. Officials confirmed the crash was fatal, and the South Carolina Highway Patrol continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident.

Carter first captured national attention in 2023 with a deeply emotional blind audition on The Voice. Performing I Look to You as a tribute to his late mother, he moved all four judges to turn their chairs—an achievement reserved for performances that resonate powerfully across the room.

Judge Niall Horan praised the moment, calling it “spectacular” and noting that such a response only happens when a performance truly connects. His coach, Reba McEntire, also reflected on the impact of that audition, emphasizing how both the song and Carter’s voice touched the heart.

Following news of his passing, McEntire shared a tribute on social media, writing that Carter was “a brilliant, kind and talented young man” who brought light to everyone around him. She described his presence on the show as a “huge ray of sunshine” and expressed how deeply he would be missed.

Beyond national television, Carter remained closely connected to his hometown. Thomas Hamilton Jr. spoke on behalf of the community, describing the loss as heartbreaking. He noted that Carter was not only a gifted performer but also someone whose kindness and charm earned him lasting respect.

“As a gifted singer, he frequently entertained our community with his performances at Town events,” Hamilton said, adding that Carter’s absence would be deeply felt by all who knew him.

Carter had been scheduled to perform at the town’s “Music on Main” event, which has since been canceled as tributes continue to pour in across social media.

During his audition, Carter openly spoke about the grief he carried after losing his mother. He told the judges that seeing them turn their chairs felt like seeing her again, sharing that she had once asked him to sing that very song at her funeral. For him, the moment represented not just opportunity, but a second chance to make her proud.

After his time on the show ended, Carter reflected on the experience with honesty and growth. He acknowledged that while the outcome may not have been what he hoped for, he gave everything he had on stage. He also shared how the journey helped him rediscover confidence in himself while continuing to carry his mother’s memory forward.

“I came to The Voice unsure of myself… and still grieving,” he wrote at the time. “I left with confidence in myself and my future.”

As the investigation into the crash continues, Carter is being remembered not only for his talent, but for the sincerity, resilience, and emotional depth he brought to both his music and the people around him.
