HERE WE GO: Iran just responded back

The first explosions that rocked Iranian targets on February 28, 2026, did more than destroy buildings and infrastructure. They shattered the fragile assumption that escalating tensions in the Middle East could still be managed through diplomacy and deterrence.

As fighter jets and missiles from the United States and Israel struck multiple sites across Iran, the international community witnessed what many described as a dangerous new phase in regional conflict.

The operation, codenamed Operation Epic Fury by U.S. forces (and Operation Roaring Lion by Israel), involved hundreds of strikes in its initial hours, targeting Iranian military installations, air defense systems, ballistic missile programs, nuclear-related facilities,

and leadership compounds. U.S. and Israeli officials stated that the campaign was designed to neutralize what they viewed as imminent threats to regional and global security, particularly Iran’s advancing nuclear capabilities and its support for proxy militant groups.

According to statements from both governments, the strikes aimed to degrade Iran’s ability to launch future attacks, disrupt command structures, and prevent the development of weapons of mass destruction. Precision munitions, drones, and advanced aircraft were reportedly used to hit key sites, with imagery circulating on social media showing plumes of smoke rising over damaged compounds and destroyed radar installations.

Iranian state media acknowledged the attacks but claimed that air defenses had intercepted a significant number of incoming projectiles. In response, Iranian leaders issued stern warnings of “devastating revenge,” vowing retaliation that could extend across the region. The strong rhetoric immediately fueled fears of a wider war involving multiple actors, potentially drawing in neighboring countries and escalating into a broader confrontation.

Diplomatic efforts intensified in the background. European nations, along with other international players, called for immediate restraint and de-escalation. Several governments expressed concern that continued hostilities could destabilize the entire Middle East, disrupt global energy supplies through the Strait of Hormuz, and lead to significant civilian casualties.

On the ground, the human impact was immediate. In Tehran and other Iranian cities, residents reported hearing explosions and air raid sirens, prompting families to seek shelter and anxiously monitor news updates. Similar scenes of tension unfolded in Tel Aviv and other Israeli communities, where civilians prepared for potential retaliatory strikes. The uncertainty weighed heavily on ordinary people on both sides, many of whom feared that the night’s events marked the beginning of a prolonged and devastating conflict rather than a limited operation.

As the situation evolved rapidly in the following days and weeks, the strikes triggered a cycle of retaliation, further military actions, and intense diplomatic maneuvering. The full consequences—strategic, humanitarian, and geopolitical—continue to unfold, with global leaders urging all parties to pursue a path toward de-escalation and negotiated resolution.
