ABC abruptly canceled Thursday night’s episode of Jimmy Kimmel Live!, leaving viewers, studio audiences, and scheduled guests in the dark just hours before airtime. The long-running late-night program had been set to feature actor David Duchovny, Stranger Things star Joe Keery, and singer Madison Beer. Beer herself broke the news on X (formerly Twitter) at 6:33 p.m. ET, writing that the show “needed to reschedule my performance… to a later date” due to unforeseen circumstances.
When viewers tuned in at 11:35 p.m. ET, they were greeted not by Kimmel’s familiar opening monologue but by a rerun from October 28. ABC offered no on-air explanation or public statement about the sudden change. Industry site LateNighter reported that the decision stemmed from “a personal matter” involving the host. Audience members who had secured tickets for the taping received an email from the show’s team confirming the postponement: “Tonight’s episode of Jimmy Kimmel Live has been postponed. Apologies for any inconvenience. Will contact you to reschedule for a future taping.”

In September 2025, Jimmy Kimmel Live! was temporarily suspended after Kimmel delivered a pointed monologue criticizing reactions to the assassination of conservative activist Charlie Kirk. Kimmel accused “the MAGA gang” of “desperately trying to characterize this kid who murdered Charlie Kirk as anything other than one of them” and attempting to score political points from the tragedy. The remarks drew swift backlash. Sinclair Broadcast Group and Nexstar Media Group pulled the show from dozens of ABC affiliates, describing the comments as “ill-timed and insensitive.” FCC Commissioner Brendan Carr publicly rebuked Kimmel, and Disney reportedly sidelined the program for several days. It returned to air on September 23.
Upon his return, Kimmel addressed the audience with an emotional segment focused on grace and forgiveness. He highlighted a moment in which Erika Kirk, Charlie’s widow, publicly forgave her husband’s killer. “If you believe in the teachings of Jesus, as I do, there it was,” Kimmel said. “A selfless act of grace, forgiveness from a grieving widow. That is an example we should follow.” Notably, he did not directly apologize for the original remarks that triggered the suspension.
