Emily was only fourteen years old when her life changed completely.
Before that, she had lived in an orphanage and had long since given up hope that she would ever have a real family. But one day, a famous billionaire who had lost his wife several years earlier came to the orphanage.
He already had two biological children — a son and a daughter. It seemed there was no reason for him to adopt another child.

“I heard a scream.”
The man looked at her sympathetically.
“Ma’am, you’re going through intense grief. That sometimes happens.”
“No, I really heard a sound.”
“You imagined it. You just said goodbye to your father.”
The coffin continued moving toward the furnace.
Only a few inches remained before the flames.
“Stop everything right now!” Emily shouted.
“Ma’am, your father has been officially declared dead. There’s nothing to worry about.”
“Stop it immediately!”
There was so much desperation in her voice that the employee instinctively pressed the stop button. The track came to a halt. Only inches remained between the coffin and the fire.
The man let out a heavy sigh.
“All right. What do you want to do?”
“Open the coffin.”
“That’s pointless.”
“Open it!”
The employee looked at her for a moment and finally agreed. He called two additional workers.
