Moments before giving birth, my husband forced me into a cab, warning me not to cause a scene

What my husband did to me moments before I was about to give birth is serial-killer levels of cold.

Imagine this! Getting contractions so hard you think your baby will just get out of you any moment, and your husband calls you dramatic and tells you to take a cab.

Is that the same man who promised “for better or for worse?”

He doesn’t even help carry the baby bag. He doesn’t offer you an arm to lean on. Instead, he puts his family first, pretty much as always.

Then he delivers what might be the most foolish, catastrophic sentence any husband could possibly say: “Mom’s got lunch reservation for her birthday and you know what she feels about being late.”

The sheer shock of it is almost impossible to comprehend.

And for what?

Because he didn’t want to miss a lunch reservation at Carbone.

Think about that for a moment.

He was willing to put his heavily pregnant wife and his baby at risk, all for a plate of spicy rigatoni and an afternoon with his awful family.

And don’t even get me started on his family walking to that restaurant. They were likely strutting around in expensive designer labels, both his mom Vanessa, and Natalie. It’s like it never even crossed their minds that they’re living off my family’s money. Sending me to the hospital all by myself just so they could go have a fancy lunch? Unbelievable.

Daniel couldn’t even fathom what was going on. The man was completely out of it, to the point where he didn’t realize that not only was it the end of his marriage, but the emergence of the beast from its slumber.

He thought that he was the brightest in the room. That he was “marrying up,” and all that his wife was was some chick whose father had a contracting business in the mountains. He thought that he was the “tech elite” and that I was some lucky creature that got to marry him. He and his mother never even had a clue. They never knew that the reason their company got any form of institutional funding, and the reason why the banks gave him a line of credit, was because the top brass in America’s financial industry knew very well who Hale was.

That day when I called my dad and told him everything was the day that I knew the clock had run out for my soon-to-be ex husband’s family.

Now that I had delivered the baby, my dad sent his senior chief of staff, a private neonatal nurse, and his postpartum specialist to intercept me, and we were immediately taken to the Hale mansion in the Hamptons, a place where Daniel had zero access.

How ironic that Daniel should come back to an empty apartment and call my father’s secondary phone to complain about there being no dinner for him! He didn’t even check whether I or our newborn baby was okay after surgery. No, he simply wanted to vent his frustration over the fact that his “domestic asset” wasn’t cooking for him.

My dad wasn’t in the mood to argue with someone like Daniel. He simply pulled out his secure line and said, “Connect me with Corporate Legal. Get the CFO on the line. Cancel all the guarantees. Credit freeze. We need an audit by 8:00 a.m.”

Watching Daniel’s world crumble to absolute ash over the next couple of days was sheer pleasure. The venture capitalists packed up and left, the banks slammed the doors on Vance Nexus, and enterprise clients canceled their contracts in no time.

Then came the utter audacity of Vanessa and Natalie showing up at my gates, trying to spin it all as a “misunderstanding.” They stood there with watering eyes, begging for access to a property they had no clue actually belonged to me. I sat back on my stone terrace and completely dismantled them. How satisfying it was to tear to shreds their absolute hypocrisy, reminding them of how they treated Natalie with organic linens and hot meals during her childbirth, while treating me as if I wasn’t even worth fifty dollars and a bowl of cold rice.

As they tried to manipulate the media through their cardboard signs speaking of “family values,” they seemed to have forgotten who my father is. Richard Hale isn’t a player at chess; he owns the game. Everything that transpired at their mini-spectacle was recorded by our high-definition security cameras and sent straight to a major media conglomerate. Within no time, the whole internet turned against them.

As one top comment put it so perfectly: “That’s not a husband, that’s a warden.”

But none of these things could compare to the final confrontation that took place in the security briefing room. Daniel looked disheveled and broken, begging for mercy once he finally realized that my family possessed “massive capitalization.”

Still, he remained as ignorant as ever, assuming my father was just some wealthy regional businessman.

And then I told him the truth, that my father didn’t own a local company, but Hale Global Corporation. He realized that everything he had built, his status and his business, was just an illusion built on my shadow. And he had trodden upon my shadow.

When he asked, “All of this… for a ride in a cab?” I snapped.

“No, Daniel. Not for the ride in a cab, but for all the proof that ride gave us. You feel no remorse because you hurt a person. You feel remorse because you injured the only heiress of Richard Hale.”

That was the door shutting on him, shutting on all of him for good. I left him sobbing in that concrete security room and stepped out into my own world.

The months have rolled by, and he’s facing federal indictment now. His family is completely broke and locked out of the social circles they always killed themselves trying to get into.
