Our dog blinked at us, tail thumping, as if baffled by the emotional storm he’d accidentally dragged home.
Later, in the quiet after the adrenaline, the whole thing felt like a lesson disguised as a joke. Our panic hadn’t come from what was actually there,
but from what we were afraid might be there. That ridiculous clump of lashes exposed how quickly the mind can turn shadows into monsters—and how, sometimes,
