Urfan Sharif, the father convicted of murdering his 10-year-old daughter, Sara Sharif, was reportedly attacked by fellow inmates while serving his life sentence at Belmarsh Prison in London.
The assault took place on New Year’s Day in 2025. Reports said two prisoners attacked Sharif with a makeshift weapon believed to have been fashioned from the lid of a tuna can.
Sharif suffered injuries to his neck and face. Despite dramatic online headlines claiming that his throat had been “sliced open,” his injuries were reported as non-life-threatening,
and he received medical treatment inside the prison.
Police and prison authorities opened an investigation into the incident.
Sharif and his wife, Beinash Batool, were convicted in December 2024 of murdering Sara after what the sentencing judge described as a prolonged campaign of horrific abuse. Sharif received a life sentence with a minimum term of 40 years,
while Batool was ordered to serve at least 33 years.
Sara was found dead at the family’s home in Woking, Surrey, in August 2023. Evidence presented during the trial showed that she had suffered numerous injuries, including fractures, burns and extensive bruising.
The prison attack attracted widespread attention because of the shocking nature of Sara’s murder. However, authorities stressed that the reported injuries Sharif sustained during the assault were not considered life-threatening.
