The cast shattered… burying the perfect charade beneath it.

THE SHATTERING TRUTH

I was only ten years old.

But in this house of shadows, ten was old enough to see the devil.

The heavy marble bookend weighed down my small hands.

Cold.

Unforgiving.

Just like the woman lying in the luxury hospital bed before me.

My grandmother.

The undisputed tyrant of the estate.

For months, she had been “paralyzed” from the knee down.

For months, the entire family bowed to her every painful whimper.

But I knew.

I took a deep breath, stepping into the center of the sterile room.

And I swung the marble stone down with everything I had.

CRACK.

A deafening explosion of sound.

Thick white plaster dust erupted into the cold, sanitized air.

The entire room snapped violently toward the noise.

Jagged chunks of the fake medical cast scattered across the expensive floorboards.

Right in the center of the chaos—

I stood perfectly still.

My knuckles were white, still gripping the broken piece of stone.

“ARE YOU OUT OF YOUR MIND?!”

My grandmother’s shrill voice tore through the shock, shaking the very walls.

Panic erupted.

The private doctors rushed forward in a frantic wave.

Nurses gasped, covering their mouths in horror.

Heavy boots of security guards echoed frantically down the marble hallway.

But I didn’t flinch.

I didn’t take a single step back.

I didn’t even blink.

The dust began to settle.

And the greatest lie of our family was finally exposed to the light.

THE MIRACLE CURE

They thought I was a traumatized child acting out.

They thought I had lost my mind from grief.

But I slowly raised my trembling finger.

I pointed straight at the pale, exposed foot resting on the white sheets.

My voice was quiet, but it cut through the room like a blade.

“TELL HER TO MOVE HER TOES.”

Silence.

Instant.

Suffocating.

The lead physician froze mid-step, utterly confused.

He blinked, looking from my small face down to the ruined plaster.

He lowered his gaze slowly.

He stared at the leg he had supposedly been treating for months.

It looked… perfect.

There was no muscle atrophy.

No discoloration.

Healthy.

Untouched by any real injury.

A grueling second passed.

The tension in the room was thick enough to choke on.

Then—

A single toe twitched.

Clatter.

A young nurse dropped her metal clipboard onto the floor.

The sharp sound cracked the heavy silence like a gunshot.

My grandmother panicked.

She scrambled, desperately trying to yank the thick blanket down over her exposed fraud.

But it was too late.

I stepped closer to the edge of her bed.

My eyes locked onto hers.

The innocence of a ten-year-old was completely gone from my soul.

My voice dropped to a freezing whisper.

“So… why did you lie?”
