The wife of Cleveland police officer Matthew Blades has paid tribute to the husband, father, and public servant she lost in a devastating crash that killed six people. Blades, 37, died alongside fellow officer Tom Clough, 38, in the early hours of August 22 while the pair were carrying out police duties.
The officers had been looking for a vehicle believed to be using cloned or false registration plates. At about 3:39 a.m., the other car crossed onto the wrong side of a dual carriageway and struck their police vehicle. Blades, Clough, and all five young men traveling in the other car were pronounced dead at the scene.
